Choose your homepage's preferred address

Why this matters

A canonical link tells search engines which address is the main version when similar pages have different addresses.

What to do

  1. Choose your preferred full HTTPS homepage address. Use the same version consistently, including whether it has www.
  2. If your editor has a canonical address setting, enter that full address and publish the page.
  3. What to tell your web developer: Please add a link with rel=canonical in the page head, with href set to the homepage's preferred full HTTPS address. The head contains page settings rather than visible content.

How to check the fix

Run the checker again and look for a preferred page address pass. Ask your developer to confirm the address is correct; the checker only checks that a link is present.
