Why this matters

Visitors may leave if the homepage takes more than three seconds to arrive.

What to do

1. Save smaller, compressed copies of large homepage images. Keep enough detail for them to look clear on screen.
2. Ask your host about caching. This means keeping a ready-made copy of a page so it can be sent faster.
3. What to tell your web developer: The homepage took over three seconds to arrive. Please check the server response time, caching and large images, then test the page again.

How to check the fix

Run the checker again at a few different times. Aim for the homepage to arrive within three seconds. Also try the page on a phone; this check does not measure the complete loading time.
