Mobile and accessibility

Set your page to fit phone screens

Why this matters

The viewport setting tells phones how to size a page. Without it, visitors may see a tiny desktop page.

What to do

  1. Check whether your website editor has a mobile layout setting, and enable it if available.
  2. Ask for this exact setting in the page head: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">. The head is the part of the page containing settings rather than visible content.
  3. What to tell your web developer: Please set the viewport meta tag to content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1" and check the layout at phone widths. Keep visitors able to zoom.

How to check the fix

Run the checker again, then open the homepage on a phone. Check that text is readable and the page does not scroll sideways. The checker finds the setting but does not test the visual layout.
