Website checks for solicitors and accountants
Give prospective clients a clear route from finding your services to making an initial enquiry.
Explain who can help
Visitors want to know whether you handle their kind of matter, where you work and how to arrange an initial conversation. Use clear service descriptions and named contact routes. The page-title check helps identify a missing or unhelpful homepage title, while the indexing check can catch an instruction left over from a private test site that asks search engines not to list it.
Keep the first enquiry proportionate
An initial form can ask for a way to contact the client and a broad outline of what they need. Avoid encouraging visitors to paste detailed financial or case information into a general enquiry box. If your site collects personal details, data-protection law applies. HTTPS protects information in transit; it does not tell you how submissions are stored or who can read them.
Check routes to document and payment services
Your site may link to a client portal, document upload or online payment page. An expired website certificate can interrupt that journey with a browser warning. Follow those links separately while signed out and confirm they point to the intended destination. The passive homepage check does not log into portals, upload documents or assess payment handling.
Review the domain used for client email
Clients may receive appointment messages, document requests and invoices from your domain. SPF identifies the services allowed to send email and DMARC tells receiving servers how to treat messages that fail identity checks. Include enquiry forms and client services in the review so legitimate messages continue to arrive. A passing result cannot establish whether a particular message or bank detail is genuine.
Checks to start with
- Give your homepage a clear page title
- Let search engines list your homepage
- Turn on a secure HTTPS connection
- Renew your website certificate
- List who may send your business email
- Set a policy for faked business email
The checker reads the public homepage, its connection and public email records. Use the results alongside your own checks of the pages and features your customers rely on.
