Website checks for cafes and restaurants
Help diners read your menu, find opening times and reach your booking or ordering page.
Serve the essentials before the decoration
Diners often arrive looking for today's opening times, your location, prices or a menu. Keep these available as readable page text where possible, rather than only in a photograph or a download. Check seasonal hours and menu links whenever you change what you serve.
Keep menus readable on phones
Large food photographs and decorative features can get in the way of finding a menu. The response-speed check measures how quickly the homepage arrives, and the blocking-script check flags scripts that can delay it appearing. The viewport check looks for phone sizing. None of these checks reads the menu or tests its layout, so try it on a phone yourself.
Follow bookings and orders to the end
Table bookings, takeaway orders and deposits may use forms or a separate service. HTTPS matters wherever diners enter contact or payment details. If your site collects personal details, data-protection law applies. Follow the booking and ordering links and check confirmation messages separately; our passive test does not reserve tables, place orders or test payments.
Make shared links useful
People send restaurant links to friends when choosing somewhere to eat. The link-preview check looks for a title and image suggestion so the shared homepage is recognisable. The business-details check finds structured information in the page code; ask whoever maintains it to keep the address and hours consistent with the visible page.
Checks to start with
- Help your homepage answer faster
- Stop scripts delaying the page appearing
- Set your page to fit phone screens
- Turn on a secure HTTPS connection
- Add a title and image for shared links
- Add business details for search engines
The checker reads the public homepage, its connection and public email records. Use the results alongside your own checks of the pages and features your customers rely on.
